Since 2018 I have been working at Acato as a teaching assistant. I am there 3 days a week. Most of the time, my day consists of looking at which pupils are doing what, and joining in. Sometimes this is just by chatting with them, but I also try to see if I can activate them when they don't have a lesson and don't know what they can do. This could be by going for a walk, getting some groceries or playing a game. A few times a week I also give lessons, for example in Dutch or drawing. My starting point is to approach the young people on the basis of equality and humour, at a pace that suits them.
